"They don't make 'em like they used to."

I've been interested in picking up a brown tweed suit for quite some time now and along with checking out various made-to-measure as well as ready to wear options, I set up a search query on eBay.  Almost a year later, I got a hit that pretty much checked off everything I was looking for.  Unbelievably thick,  this Ralph Lauren suits weighs as much as a small baby.  I knew it was vintage and engaged the seller in some serious communication to learn as much as I could about it.  While he couldn't tell me the weight of the fabric, he did tell me it was originally purchased at a Ralph Lauren store in 1987.

For something that's almost as old as I am, the suit is in remarkable condition.  He advised me that he actually only wore the suit a handful of times and took the utmost amount of care when it came to storage to ensure moths didn't get at it, which once it arrived was very clear.  I could probably wax poetic for paragraphs about the fabric quality and construction of this suit, but I'll just stop by saying it's one of the most remarkable pieces of tailoring that I've had the joy of owning.  With the frigid temperatures we've been having here in St. Louis lately, it's probably going to see far more wear from me both as a suit and separates in a shorter amount of time than it has since it was originally purchased.

As with everything, I had to pay a visit to my tailor, Dan to get things just right with some minor alterations.  After getting the suit back, I jumped at the first chance to break out some of the new gear I recently received from my friends over at Trashness and Bows 'N Ties.  If you haven't yet, absolutely check them out.
